Early STEAM Investment Yields Benefits for Women and Their Communities

My goal in life is to be a role model for the next generation and show everything is possible. I have always believed that education, leadership, and community service are at the very central part of any society’s sustainable development.  I would like to work on the quality of education in collaborating with not-for-profit organizations to give solutions to social problems. There are potential problems that could be solved using technology and could impact the life of my community in positive ways. One of the problems we are facing these days is that young people who are graduating from universities don’t have industry standard knowledge to work in industries they choose. My focus lies then in finding out what will be the outcome of short industry-standard training for young people regarding increasing the employment rate and job creation.

A Chinese proverb goes, “Give a woman a fish you feed her for a day, teach a woman to fish you feed her for a lifetime.” I’d like to focus my efforts on attracting more young girls into STEAM fields. It’s not because I am a woman, rather, it becomes obvious to me that empowering women in these fields would mean increasing the quality of life in their family which, ultimately would contribute to the sustainable development of Ethiopia at large.
