We rely on our two main fundraising events to support our ongoing priorities: our annual Sips & Songs for Literacy in late Spring and our gala dinner & auction in early Winter.

Power in Literacy - Virtual Gala Event | Online Throughout November 2020

This is our largest event of the year which has raised over $600,000 since 2011 however due to the pandemic, we are going virtual and will have multiple online events throughout November to give you the full Gala experience from music and dance, to auction and raffles, to art and books, and inspiring stories from amazing supporters. We can’t serve you delicious Ethiopian food this time but are hoping to teach out how to make some yourself.  Join us for the first ever event online and help us make it our best yet!

Our spring event, Sips & Songs for Literacy on June 13, 2020 from 7:00-10:30 pm at EFESTĒ Winery in Woodinville has been CANCELLED due to pandemic safety measures. We hope to resume this crowd pleasing fundraiser in Spring 2020.

If you planned to attend this year and would still like to support OHBD at this time, please click here to give. Thank you so much for your open hearts making big dreams possible!

Congratulations Lucy, Winner of OHBD's First Art Contest!

Lucy was one of several talented kids who entered our first-ever art contest. She painted this portrait of her sister Eve as her entry, and she had this to say about why she entered:

"I joined in this contest because I wanted to share about Ethiopia and about hair braiding. It feels good to win but also I like art and Ethiopia! I think everybody is a good artist!"

Lucy's prize is a $25 Amazon gift card and four books of her choice! She chose: Little Lion; The Runaway Injera; The Lost Son; Beautiful Hair.

Congratulations, Lucy! Thank you for sharing your creative talents with us.

Not sure how to help? Don’t have a lot of time? Don’t live in the area? We have many opportunities to get involved.
