Power in Literacy - Virtual Gala Event | Online Throughout November 2020

This is our largest event of the year.  Due to the pandemic, we are went virtual in 2020 and expect we will do the same in 2021.  We had multiple online events throughout November to give the full Gala experience from music and dance, to auction and raffles, to art and books, and inspiring stories from amazing supporters. instead of serving delicious Ethiopian food this time, we started a cooking class fundraiser series to teach supporters how to make some yourself.  Thanks to all who joined us for the first ever event online and made it it our best yet!  Check back here for new on-line events through out 2021.

Our spring event, Sips & Songs for Literacy on June 13, 2020 from 7:00-10:30 pm at EFESTĒ Winery in Woodinville was CANCELLED due to pandemic safety measures. We plan to offer Ethiopian dance class fundraisers in 2021 to keep spreading the joy of music and dance while social distancing is still required..

If you can't join us for on-line events and would still like to support OHBD, please click here to give. Thank you so much for your open hearts making big dreams possible!

Congratulations Lucy, Winner of OHBD's First Art Contest in 2020!

Lucy was one of several talented kids who entered our first-ever art contest. She painted this portrait of her sister Eve as her entry, and she had this to say about why she entered:

"I joined in this contest because I wanted to share about Ethiopia and about hair braiding. It feels good to win but also I like art and Ethiopia! I think everybody is a good artist!"

Lucy's prize is a $25 Amazon gift card and four books of her choice! She chose: Little Lion; The Runaway Injera; The Lost Son; Beautiful Hair.

Congratulations, Lucy! Lucy's art piece was also included in a Ready Set Go Book, "The Party."

Thank you for sharing your creative talents with us. Stay tuned for information on the OHBD 2021 Art Contest coming soon.
